Unspoiled Beauty Of West Java : Geopark Ciletuh

Who doesn’t love a road trip? Whether by yourself, with some friends, or even certain members of your family, hitting the road in a vehicle is an exhilarating way to travel. The stunning Geo Park Ciletuh lies in the West Java region of Indonesia. The park is surrounded by hills and ended up by Indian Ocean. We’re sure you are all familiar with iconic beaches such as Pelabuhan Ratu, Carita, and Anyer but Ciletuh is potentially superior to all of these in terms of natural beauty.

How To Get There

It may not have the iconic attractions as some of the other places around Sukabumi, but Ciletuh offers a variety of intriguing reasons to make you stay and explore. The thing is, there’s no direct public transportation to get there yet. From Jakarta, you need to take a bus to Pelabuhan Ratu then continue with mini bus (elf car) to Taman Jaya Village. We’ll suggest you to take your own vehicle instead. It’s way more convenient and offers flexibility rather than relying on public transportation. It only took 4 hours driving from Jakarta to the nearest point of Geopark Ciletuh here. As you arrived to that location, you can find few signboard to Curug Awang, Curug Panenjoan, etc.

Where To Stay

There are just few homestay managed by local people and it can get crowded sometimes in the public/national holiday (July / December) so make sure you’ve already book your room at least a week before if you’re planning to travel at that times.  The average price per night is around IDR200,000 – 300,000 per room. Otherwise, you can contact Mr. Bhoyo at +62 858-6471-8112. We were staying at his house back then and he was really helpful to arrange our trip and gave us a few recommendation of undiscovered places to explore.

Where To Go

Curug Awang

Known as the largest waterfall in Geo Park Ciletuh area. It’s also the most popular spot for visitors because it’s located in the heart of Geo Park Ciletuh, not too far from the main road. You can easily find the signboard to get here.

A walk along the trail to the fall takes you very close to the fall where you become shrouded in its mist.  From the parking lot, visitors must take a short walk to a platform that opens up to panoramic views of the waterfall.

Curug Sodong

The solitude was apparent as we parked outside the entrance and took a short walk to the bottom of the waterfall. Local people named it as “Curug Pengantin” or Bride Waterfalls. If you want to grab a lunch and take a short stop to rest your bones after a long drive, Curug Sodong is definitely a spot we would recommend to enjoy the relaxing surroundings.

Curug Cimarinjung

Curug Cimarinjung is the tallest waterfall in Geo Park Ciletuh. This waterfall connects to the river and ended by the sea. When you arrive at the entrance to Curug Cimarinjung, this is when your journey into the gorgeous, untouched wilderness will begin. There are a number of walking trails around the waterfall which offer different angles to enjoy wildlife and relaxing surroundings.

Ciletuh’s Best View Point Spot

Located just on the side of the main road, you can reach this spot without worrying to get lost. From here, you can see the whole view of Ciletuh Geo Park landscape. A mix of rice fields, hills, waterfalls and even the sea adds to a wonderful combination for you to enjoy and relax.

Ciletuh Geological Site

Heading from the main road, take the short drive to a small port where you can charter a boat to explore the geological stones area. The average price would be IDR700,000 – 800,000 per boat up to 8 people.

The itinerary of this boat trip usually takes you around the Cikepu Beach, Kunti Island, Batik Stones, Sodong Barat Beach, Sea Caves, etc. Taking a tour of Ciletuh by boat is totally exciting and of course worth the prices with the breathtaking scenery along the tour.
